Why Assam Lifestyle?
Assam is a land having awesome culture and tradition. Dr Bhupen Hazarika had rightly said that the Assamese calendar month “Bohag” is not only a season but is the lifeline of the Assamese community. What Dr Hazarika uttered in his beautiful songs has been inspiring us since childhood. But today witnessing the current scenario we feel that the “Bor Axom” what Dr Hazirika dreamt of encompassing the unique tradition and culture of all the communities residing along the mighty river Brahmaputra has been thrown away and everybody is engaged in proving “I holier than thou”. This has started affecting not only in our political life but badly the social and economic lives. The great fabric of the Assamese community has been torn into pieces what our great forefathers took centuries to weave into one consorted family. The way we weaved the beautiful “Gamosa” with the help of individual threads likewise we need to weave our own community and its lifestyle by respecting, promoting and most importantly celebrating what we have in our tradition and culture and letting the world know what we have in store for them. Truly speaking, when we start promoting our traditional products some criticize and some sacrifice. And those who sacrifice are the artisans, the weavers, the craftsmen, and many more who have been producing the unique traditional products with utmost dedication and labor. There are very few local artisans who have been producing the traditional products and are earning good livelihood. But there are many who by their individual efforts are unable to sustain in the current competitive market and are reluctant to produce the genuine traditional products owing to price factor. To make quick profits some of our local sellers are also promoting and selling duplicate products and the reason why both the artisans and the consumers are losing, the former are losing their livelihood and the letter the genuine traditional products. We, at Assam Lifestyle, understand that people must change according to the time and must learn how to cope up with that. We should adopt the good things that time has brought to us and also try to carry forward the good things what we have into the future. By accepting the modern trend it does not mean that we should forget our traditional golden treasury. Our unique culture and tradition is the corpus fund upon which Assam’s lifestyle has been insured.
